Our Story

Started by a small group in the late fall of 2025, they called themselves the “3.5% group” after political scientist Erica Chenoweth’s 3.5% rule. The theory is that no government historically has been able to suppress 3.5% of the population that participates in nonviolent protest and civil disobedience.

Red Wing’s weekly Friday protests had brought out hundreds, but this group wanted to do something more action oriented. One member specifically said they wanted to make their actions tangible. Early on the “tangible thing” was Jake’s Campaign. Two members received training and brought these lessons to Red Wing which kicked off the Super Group in the winter of 2026.

Fearful of losing our core values that support democracy, we see in Jake an integrity and desire to preserve representative government. His commitments to supporting public programs like SNAP, Medicare/Medicaid, and to hosting town halls in every county (during and after the campaign) demonstrates that he listens to the needs of rural minnesotan’s. Needs that aren’t being heard with our current representative in Congress.

Nobody in our group knows exactly the right path or answers but we feel compelled to buckle up and do something. In these overwhelming and frighteningly uncertain times, we hope this message resonates. And that you desire, like us to make a small impact to keep this beautiful union and American experiment alive and well.
